WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. —
The child who stole his grandmother's SUV to go on a joyride in 2008 is in trouble again.
Latarian Milton, 16, was in juvenile court Monday to face charges stemming from a robbery and carjacking over the weekend.
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's office, a Lyft driver picked up four young males and a female early Sunday morning and drove them to the 1500 block of Windorah Way in West Palm Beach.
That's where deputies said the female got out of the vehicle.
Investigators said the suspects told the driver to take them to another location.
When the driver refused, authorities said one of the suspects pulled out a handgun and struck the driver in the back of the head.
The driver told detectives he got out of the car and was robbed of his wallet and jacket.
He also told deputies that Milton, who was in the front passenger seat, got out and hopped into the driver's seat and sped away with other suspects.
The driver gave detectives a phone number from the initial call, which led to the identification of Milton.
Sunday afternoon, deputies arrested Milton in Riviera Beach on Blue Heron Boulevard near Congress Avenue.
Authorities said Milton removed the stolen car keys out of his pocket and threw them to the ground.
They said he confessed and told them he acted as the get away driver.
We first met Milton in 2008 when he was 7-years-old.
Back then, he was heading down the wrong path.
Vikkita Stratford learned the hard way her grandson was headed for trouble.
"When I came though the back door, I look on the counter and my keys were gone," she said.
Milton had taken her Dodge Durango.
"I took my grandmother's car because I got mad at my mom," Milton said. "And I saw my friend come in and he smoked with cigarettes."
Milton started the SUV and put it into gear. He and another 7-year-old ventured out alone on the road.
Milton drove several miles through Lake Park and Palm Beach Gardens.
Along the way, he ran over two mailboxes, hit two parked cars in a Costco parking lot on Northlake Boulevard and struck two moving cars near a Walmart on Congress Avenue.
"I want to do it because it's fun, fun to do bad things," Milton said back then.
It all ended on Investment Lane and Consumer Drive. That's where Milton struck the curb and got stuck in a field.
The SUV took most of the beating.
Palm Beach County sheriff's deputies soon showed up.
"If I thought they wouldn't take me to jail, I'd whip his behind right now," Stratford said at the time.
A few weeks later, Milton attacked his grandmother in a Lake Park Walmart when she wouldn't buy him some chicken wings.
In 2015, Milton graduated from middle school and appeared to be on the straight and narrow.
But he couldn't seem to stay out of trouble.
In court today, the judge ordered Milton to be held at the juvenile detention center.
His next court date is Friday.
